Natural skincare products are on the rise, as it is the healthiest, safest choice that is cruelty-free and ethically conscious. As the world is changing day by day, so is our awareness of the impact we have on the planet. Respect for the environment is a focus in today’s world, and it comes down to small steps towards it – such as choosing organic skincare. Certifications, such as ECOCERT COSMOS Organic or Natural, is a sure way to showcase transparent business practices and products of outstanding quality.
Let’s dive into the purpose of the COSMOS standard and Ecocert organic certification and which products from the PATTERNA catalogue are labelled as Ecocert-certified cosmetics: Natural and Organic.
What is Ecocert?
Ecocert is the world’s leading organic certification organization founded in France. For over 30 years, Ecocert has implemented and promoted sustainable practices through certification. Starting with organic farming, Ecocert has extended its efforts to various other sectors, including cosmetics and skincare. The organization strives to enable production processes that respect the environment and better product quality and safety.
One of the areas of Ecocert’s practice is COSMOS certification. The certification highlights environmentally friendly and socially conscious practices. It applies to natural skincare brands and guarantees environmentally friendly production and processing, responsible use of natural resources, respect for biodiversity, absence of petrochemical ingredients – parabens, phenoxyethanol, perfumes and synthetic colorants, and absence of GMO and recyclable packaging.
All PATTERNA skincare products are Ecocert certified. All the products have been verified by the Ecocert team – from composition to processing and packaging. However, the products are divided into two categories – Natural and Organic.
COSMOS Natural?
To get the COSMOS Natural label, all the product ingredients have to be from natural origin except a restrictive approved ingredient list (including preservatives) authorized in small quantities. On average, Ecocert-certified products contain 99% ingredients of natural origin. Most of the PATTERNA face, and hair body care products are Natural certified.
All categories of face care products come with Natural certification. Starting with cleansing, such products are Clarifying Gel and Purifying Mousse. The next step – toning – can be done with Hydrating Toner or Purifying Toner. More goal-specific products such as Hydrating Serum, CBD Eye Cream, Smoothing Eye Cream, Brightening Eye Cream, Caffeine Gel Booster and Antioxidant Ginkgo Gel Booster are also completely Natural. Moisturizers that are Natural certified are Moisturizing Day Cream, Light Moisturizing Day Cream, Anti-Age Day Cream, Nourishing Rich Cream and Oil-Free Hydrating Gel. As the final steps of face care, applying Sunscreen SPF30 and BB Cream is also a part of the Natural skincare ritual.
Products for hair care such as Moisturizing Shampoo, Nourish and Volumize Shampoo and Moisturizing Conditioner are also certified as Natural.
Body care products with Natural label are: Moisturizing Body Lotion, Hydrating Body Wash, Hydrating Hand Cream and all types of Hand & Body Wash.
COSMOS Organic?
A skincare product is COSMOS Organic certified only if a minimum of 95% of the plants it contains are organic and at least 20% of organic ingredients are present in the total formula (10% for rinse-off products). Note that water or minerals are not regarded as “organic” as they are not from agriculture.
Currently, four products from the PATTERNA catalog are Organic certified. They are: Gentle Cleansing Milk, Micellar Cleansing Water, Nourishing Facial Oil and CBD Oil Booster. If you want to buy a skincare line that is specifically focused on organic ingredients, these are products for you..
